The day goes in a bit of a blur but the team operates like clockwork. I travel with Van 1 until the handover and then switch into Van 2, aka Orca. We pick up time on every leg and I run 7:17 min miles for my leg. Beautiful run through the woods but a killer hill at the end which kills my splits.
The race gets very interesting as we hit night time - out come the miners lamps, day glo jackets and flashing brake lights. This is actually the scariest part so far as we are travelling through high traffic areas at night on major roads. We hand off at New Paltz and head for the I84 diner for a cold beer and food. Part 1 accomplished, now for some sleep under the stars.
